Sketchup & Photoshop Innovations

Are you into using sketch up to present your building designs. I suggest the layering your sketch-up renders in Photoshop. The reason why this is cool is because if you are a an avid sketch up user, you can set up a view in sketch of your model with people cars transportation and make it alive.

Once you have saved a scene, look for the scene button it allows you to set a a static view so if you move the model out of place then you can click on the scene button and it will revert you back to your scene that u have just saved.

So then after that you need to render different view s like this and then in Photoshop to composite them to get a final image.

What is the Coffee Shop Architect

The Coffee Shop Architect poses the question for debate . Can we now enjoy the labour of design and the traditional work environment and relocate that to the social cultural spaces of our cities. Designers now have access to many social spaces, laptops and wireless technologies have allowed the human work experience to merge with the cultural social landscapes inhabited by the nomadic design architect already..

The transition has become seamless and desirable  and has allowed the working environments easy transition from that of a corporate confinement to a social freedom and a liberation from the industrial notions of the dark ages.

This can easily be enjoyed by everyone who owns a laptop and ,  independence easily enjoyed with a cup of coffee a few sachets of brown sugar and a wireless connection and now you can  enjoy the moment too, the only ting left to do is to fire your boss.

The potential is huge, you still can be attached to the global communities using Facebook and Skype as tools to connect our virtual offices, while sipping a Cuppa Joe in our favorite coffee shop near the sea, inner city or tropical island.

The next question to be asked
Will these new paradigms of nomadic work behaviors still allow for collaboration, and longevity.

Can the individual now be free of the industrial style work environments that plague the metropolis, with the new age office / drawing board / creative suites easy to zip up in a laptop bag, together with mobile internet.

My belief in the architectural world is  that the  design architects needs to celebrate the the built fabric as much as he needs to design it, he cannot be isolated in an office high up in a building, he needs to enmesh with the culture around him, in order to partake extract and give back. He will never be allowed to inform his design, in a work environment of isolation.

The design architect no longer needs to separate himself from the world in order to design, he can now be embodied  in his experience of design, and make and create whilst sipping a cuppa joe. The essential creative energies and cross cultural energies to flow, while embracing a creative process infused with the aroma of cuban coffee.

Technology allows the Nomadic  mobility of the Architect.

What really excites me as an individual is the ability to so easily pick up and head to the nearest coffee shop open up my laptop and have all the tools at my disposal, to design with sketchup , creative writing using blogger , to design buildings using revit, and not to mention post production  and all at the same time harnessing the communicative technologies of skype and facebook to collaborate with my colleagues across the globe.

We can now sit in a buzzing coffee shop in any city in the world enjoy the energy of the cultural buzz sip a cappuccino and if needed to have privacy we can isolate our ctminds with headphones with classical music, and still be hooked up to the world via skype to take calls. At the same same time we can choose to embrace the energy around us and focus on our work, the need to embrace culture.

This website I have designed for the new age architect, who can now build his freedom around his ability to be mobile . He or She can now be an observer, and embrace of cultural fancy and at the same time be constructive and earn a living whilst being a nomad of design and culture.

The new age of the coffee shop architect is taken place and I look forward to anyone who may have something to comment , write about fusion of work culture and nomadic mobility, that we can now so much enjoy, with ability that technology has forwarded to us with mobile internet laptops and coffee shops culture.

Fee free to make a youtube video or write a comment which I will publish online  excerpt of your coffee shop experience together with your laptop and creative energies.

Love to hear your comments and posts.

Sketchup Architects & the future of design

I am an architect and have spent many years enjoying the versatility of being a sketchup architect, what I mean by that is that sketchup is an unbelievably powerful tool invented by 'Atlast' and spotted by Google. Myriads may will unanimously agree to its accolades. The design world has been invigorated by this tool, just alone in the last year their have been thirty million activations. Sketchup was made famous by Google Earth , launched in  2000 its versatility has been a breakthrough  for the architectural, mechanical ,civil and gaming industries. Recently Sketchups user base was shocked by Google's sale of Sketchup to Trimble Navigation this year (2013).

Miracles for Sketchup Architects

Many have realized how powerful and awesome sketchup really is. There's a new breed of designer called the sketchup architect, who yields the power of this cutting edge software.

Google announced that it sell out of the sketchup tech to Trimble navigation will allow the refinement of the software in the design and assembly market, the Geo Spatial Giant in North America, have taken on the development of sketchup for the next generation of  sketchup architects & other users globally.

Speculation of a new assembly tool for Sketchup Architects

Complete speculation would suggest that the future of sketchup as an assembly tool not only as a design tool, will probably change the way we design and  implement. Three dimensional developers will still have the chance to use sketchup with Google earth, but I really have a feeling that something bigger is brewing for the sketchup market especially for construction documentation.

Word on the street suggest that the Sketchup Architect will not be disappointed by what s to transpire in the direction  of assembly drawings. I had a intuitive feeling many years ago as a pioneer  sketchup architect, that the future of sketchup would be determined by the design of other software's like  Autodesk's Revit Architecture suite, and programs like the lumion 3d which are taking the world by storm.

I believed for the sketchup architect that a hybrid software would be developed combining the strengths of software's like revit, archicad and sketch up into one homogenous whole.

I have always speculated a revit / sketch up hybrid for the Sketchup Architect. This seems to be taking place without Autodesk in the picture and will be interesting if the 2 ever do merge. My speculation is Trimble will go solo .It seems that Trimble will allow for the new development of Geo-spatial software and the future of design implementation as we know will certainly change the game.

I picked this video from YouTube as it demonstrated the power of sketch up combined with Google earth, for all you budding sketchup architects out their...take a look

Trimble and the future of design for sketchup architects internationally

For myself Sketchup has been an awesome tool for conceptual design process and you are welcome to look at the work I have produced using it. I  am sure most sketchup architects would agree, that their is nothing on the planet that may exist with such ease of use and power in the 3rd dimension.

Imagine when sketchup takes on the level of detail that programs like archicad and revit allow for working documentation, there will be no stopping.....them. I am excited to see what may transpire .

I would love you to comment on this article ,if you find it interesting and share it with other designers.

Kind Regards

New technology to design architecture

New technology to design architecture

My story is a winding road, but what really comes out of it , has been been streamlined method that I to aid the process and fast production of design architecture.

It all started after I qualified at the university of Cape Town, thrust into the the niche of presentation, using 3d studio and V-ray. What better way to get into an industry than to provide offering a design presentation service, to architects around where I live.

Providing presentation skills to design architecture is a great way to break into in an industry and meet new clientele ,as most local architects don't have the skills or time to hone their talents at creating beautiful presentations to present their own work.

Late Nights and design architecture created huge stress

What I later realized was that I was having to  design architecture and present for most architects.Late nights became the norm and I found my focus being drained by rendering and technological issues and unable to focus on my primary goal to design, computers crashing midstream and  photo realistic production was tedious.

3d Max is amazing software but stress levels run high , the 3d industry is stressful and las an architect you need to be aware that you may be trading your design skills in for  strictly presentation skills, due to time constraints.

Design Architecture or Technical presentation Guru?

The stress when design architecture takes the back-stand to presentation,is no fun at all.

As fascinating as 3d design architecture can be , the process can be burdensome, and no not that fun at all. The emphasis on textures, lighting, clouds, skies, and animation, siphon all the precious design architecture emphasis and care needed and eventually the quality of the design is compromised by the technicalities that override producing a 3d photo realistic drawing..

I was frustrated I had become an architect that primary purpose was to present and not to design architecture, and found myself being a technical junkie, to design architecture had become a rarity for me.

SO what happened was cool - Google sketch-and Revit arrived on the scene in those days and I started to become best friends with the software. I worked out ways to create presentations fast and on the fly, I could now focus on my design passion and presentation was easy .

My Sketch-up presentations also became a favorite at work, and the directors of my company enjoyed the speed I and quick turnaround time in design, and presenting the images to new clients, using adobe Photoshop, printing color laser brochures in A3 with multiple images.

I had developed a way to streamline my time and also have the ability to design architecture primarily.

The best part in those days is I could log off work at 5.30pm to go home to my young family, and feel content with have produced as much work as possible, created glorious presentations and managed to get home just in time for dinner, and having an early night rest to wake up refreshed for a new day of work in the architectural field.

Design Architecture Philosophy? Its wonderful to love something you do, but being a functional family member and human being is also very important, streamlining sketch-up or revitt methodologies to produce design work fast is key to my life, these tools are almost beyond real, and have helped in so many instances, if you can hone your skills using them they will aid your workflow process if you a behind the laptop coffee shop architect like me.

Have a powerful day,
